Job Summary

This position is with Warwick Engineering (NI) Ltd. The role forms part of an Innovation Boost project supported by InterTradeIreland. Salary support under the programme is provided for 18 months; however, the employment contract is with Warwick Engineering (NI) Ltd and is not limited to the funding period.

Company Introduction

Warwick Engineering (NI) Ltd is based in Ballymena, Co. Antrim and was established 1992. Warwick Engineering manufacture, supply and install Structural Steel, Architectural cladding and various Architectural metal work in Mild steel, Aluminium & Stainless Steels. Warwick Engineering has in house design and detailing expertise for structural steel projects. All steel fabrication is completed on site, with EN 1090 compliance & certification.

Job Description

The project will develop a new modular range of standard agricultural and industrial steel-framed buildings. The role will focus on transferring technical knowledge into Warwick Engineering and building new in-house capability in modular product design, structural steel design coordination, product documentation, manufacturing workflow and controlled product release.

The role covers the full product development lifecycle, from customer and market requirement capture through to concept design, structural design coordination, detailed product development, manufacturing setup, prototype development and product launch. The successful candidate will gain practical experience in structural steel design, modular building systems, compliance, design control, manufacturing processes and product development.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Coordinate delivery of the Innovation Boost project workplan between Warwick Engineering, Dundalk Institute of Technology and other project stakeholders.
  • Support the development of a standardised range of modular steel-framed agricultural and industrial buildings.
  • Assist with concept development, CAD modelling, technical drawings, design documentation, product structures and bills of materials.
  • Coordinate technical inputs relating to structural design, Eurocode requirements, EN 1090 compliance, planning support documentation and building specification requirements.
  • Support the development of PV-ready building options, including roof loading, steel frame implications, mounting interfaces and supporting structural documentation.
  • Help develop manufacturing workflows, standard components, jigs, fixtures, workshop processes and standard operating procedures to support efficient production.
  • Introduce and maintain design control processes, including revision control, engineering change records, drawing registers and controlled technical documentation.
  • Support product costing, technical customer information and the controlled launch of the modular shed / building range through Warwick’s future online product configuration route to market.
  • Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, academic partners and customers to ensure technical requirements are properly captured and translated into a practical, manufacturable product.
  • Ensure the technical knowledge developed during the project is embedded within Warwick Engineering so that the business can continue to develop future standardised steel products after the Innovation Boost project is complete.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Dundalk Institute of Technology as part of InterTradeIreland’s Innovation Boost Programme.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Civil / Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Quantity Surveying with strong technical content, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year relevant industrial, placement, internship, graduate scheme or project experience in engineering design, structural steel, fabrication, modular building design, manufacturing, construction or product development.
  • Experience using CAD, 3D modelling or technical drawing software, for example SolidWorks, Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD, Inventor or similar.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Northern Ireland/UK, located within commuting distance of Ballymena and travel throughout Ireland as required; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Northern Ireland/UK you must upload a copy of it with your application. Failure to provide a relevant Visa/Work permit may result in your application not being considered.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience or strong academic/project exposure to structural steel design, light industrial buildings, agricultural buildings, modular structures or fabricated steel assemblies.
  • Understanding of design for manufacture, bills of materials, product standardisation, component commonality, jigs, fixtures, workshop processes or manufacturing workflow improvement.
  • Experience preparing or supporting technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, design records, revision control, installation information, quality documentation or compliance packs.
  • Familiarity with Eurocodes, EN 1090, CE/UKCA marking, structural calculations, planning support documentation or building regulation requirements would be advantageous.
  • Interest or experience in low-carbon building features, including PV-ready roof design, mounting interfaces, steel support frames, embodied carbon or sustainable construction.
  • Able to communicate technical information clearly with internal teams, academic partners, suppliers and customers during product development and project delivery.
