This position is with Viltra Ltd. The role forms part of an Innovation Boost project supported by InterTradeIreland. Salary support under the programme is provided for 18 months; however, the employment contract is with Viltra Ltd and is not limited to the funding period.

Viltra Ltd is a specialist provider of wastewater treatment solutions serving domestic, commercial, industrial and agricultural clients across the UK and Ireland. The company designs, installs and maintains site-specific treatment systems, pumping stations and ancillary infrastructure, ensuring full regulatory compliance and long-term reliability. In collaboration with ATU Donegal through the InterTradeIreland Innovation Boost programme, Viltra is developing an IoT-enabled monitoring platform to deliver real-time performance insights and early-fault diagnostics for treatment installations – the company's next step in bringing smart, connected monitoring to environmental infrastructure.
Job Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager and mentored throughout by ATU Donegal's WiSAR research team with periodic contributions from an InterTradeIreland consultant, the Graduate IoT Engineer will drive the design, development and deployment of Viltra's new real-time monitoring platform for wastewater treatment plants.
This is a graduate role with an unusual amount of ownership behind it: one product, concept to deployment, and it's yours. You won't be doing it alone – the academic partner brings deep expertise in wireless sensing and IoT systems, and structured mentoring is built into the programme. Your will bring your own knowledge, energy and drive to turn that expertise into a working product inside the business.
Key Responsibilities
The project runs in three broad phases over 18 months:
- Months 1–6 – get hands-on with the pilot plant: sensor selection and integration, data logging, and communications modules.
- Months 7–12 – build the cloud platform: data storage, dashboards and remote diagnostics for live installations.
- Months 13–18 – work with WiSAR on anomaly-detection algorithms, validate on live sites, address CE marking and data-protection requirements, and hand over to Viltra's team through documentation and training.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Atlantic Technological University as part of the InterTradeIreland Innovation Boost Programme.
