Product Development Engineer, Paradigm Plastics Ltd t/a Future Plastics

Job Summary

This position is with Future Plastics. The role forms part of an Innovation Boost project supported by InterTradeIreland. Salary support under the programme is provided for 18 months; however, the employment contract is with Future Plastics and is not limited to the funding period.

Future Plastics in Navan specialises in heavy gauge thermoforming, CNC machining and high-level assembly, supplying ready-to-use plastic components to sectors such as aerospace, transport, agriculture and off-highway machinery. Future Plastics has been assessed and registered by NQA against the provisions of AS9100D & BS EN ISO 9001:2015 for tool making, precision engineering services, the manufacture and supply of precision components and fabrication services to industry.

Job Description

This position at Future Plastics is to develop world-class products for thermoforming manufacturing.

In this role, you will help Future Plastics to develop additional high-end, value-added products. You will improve design tools for forming and trimming, enhance the concurrent engineering approach using FEA tools and deepen understanding of tolerance build-up within thermoformed plastic components. You will become involved in all aspects of product development, enabling new aerospace products to be introduced more efficiently and to the required specification. By developing a greater understanding of the customer requirements in the initial design and product development phase, you will assist the company in providing enhanced design and developing new products.

Reporting to the Company Supervisor, duties/responsibilities will include:

  • Customer Design Liaison
  • Design and development of new products
  • Development of new design tools
  • Customer engagement and product validation

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Ulster University as part of the InterTradeIreland Innovation Boost Programme.

Interviews will be held approximately week commencing: 25/05/2026

Essential Criteria

  • 2:1 Honours degree in mechanical engineering, general engineering, polymer engineering, engineering design or manufacturing systems;
  • 1-year relevant industrial experience in the application of the design of polymeric or composite components.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Ireland/EU and travel throughout the island of Ireland if required; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Ireland/EU you must upload a copy of it with your application. Failure to provide a relevant Visa/Work permit may result in your application not being considered.

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant industry experience
  • Understanding of manufacturing systems and procedures, production, quality control and capacity utilisation;
  • Extensive IT skills and capability;
  • Experience of Polymer/ composite processes or tooling;
  • Experience of 3D CAD design;
  • Project management skills.
