Job Summary

This position is with Merris Engineering Ltd. The role forms part of an Innovation Boost project supported by InterTradeIreland. Salary support under the programme is provided for 18 months; however, the employment contract is with Merris Engineering and is not limited to the funding period.

Merris Engineering Ltd designs and manufactures innovative machinery for industrial, laboratory, and recycling applications. Their product range includes paint shakers, crushers, and small-scale incinerators, serving clients across aerospace, chemical, construction, and environmental sectors worldwide. Merris prides itself on delivering high-quality, reliable, and custom-engineered solutions that combine functionality, efficiency, and sustainability.

Job Description

The new role at Merris Engineering Ltd will focus on the design and development of a biochar-producing incinerator and related environmentally focused machinery. Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and supporting 3D digital design and prototyping systems.
  • Applying Design for Manufacture & Assembly (DFMA) to optimise efficiency, quality, and repeatability.
  • Leading mechanical and instrumentation design, including materials selection, integration of sensors, controls, and emission monitoring.
  • Performing performance characterisation, including combustion efficiency, biochar quality, and flue gas analysis.
  • Managing design controls, change management, and technical documentation, including BOMs, SOPs, and user manuals.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance through in-house testing and coordination with third-party certification as required.
  • This role is key to modernising Merris’ engineering capability, embedding advanced design, compliance, and instrumentation expertise, and supporting the development of innovative, environmentally compliant machinery.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Southern Regional College as part of the InterTradeIreland Innovation Boost Programme.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Proficient in use of Solidworks/ Inventor, CAD or another 3D Drawing package.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Ireland/EU, Northern Ireland/UK and travel throughout the island of Ireland if required; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Ireland/EU, Northern Ireland/UK you must upload a copy of it with your application. Failure to provide a relevant Visa/Work permit will result in your application not being considered.
