Systems Engineer, Connolly Meats

Job Summary

This position is with Connolly Meats. The role forms part of an Innovation Boost project supported by InterTradeIreland. Salary support under the programme is provided for 12 months; however, the employment contract is with Connolly Meats and is not limited to the funding period.

Connolly Meats is a family-owned Irish agri-food company, working under the same roof for three generations, and specialising in premium pork and bacon products like rashers, gammon, and sausages. We are known for our quality, sustainability and customer service, and we supply to both major retailers in Ireland and the UK and local family butchers. We operate from our modern facility near our family farm in County Monaghan, and focus on traditional values with innovative product development, serving both retail and online customers.

Job Description

Initially, you will lead a significant software and process improvement project to increase the efficiency of our order-to-cash and factory waste/yield tracking. The successful delivery of this project will be key to the company’s projected growth in the coming years. Elements of the project will include:

  • Implementing a digitised workflow solution for Order-to-Cash
  • Introduce software to collect data from the factory floor
  • Implementation of process improvement techniques
  • Work with IT providers to select and develop solutions
  • Development and application of standard operating procedures
  • Leading the roll-out of the new systems, including training
  • Working with users to improve the new systems where necessary

On completion of the project, you will work with the senior management team to identify further process and system improvements required to maintain growth ambitions. You will lead projects to implement these changes, which will involve significant collaboration with all areas of the business and its delivery partners.

As part of this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising industrial/office systems and manufacturing processes for efficiency, safety, and quality. You will focus on continuous improvement, cost reduction, and compliance with standards by analysing data, troubleshooting issues, managing projects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance delivery performance and profitability.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Southern Regional College as part of the InterTradeIreland Innovation Boost Programme.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in ICT, Engineering, Manufacturing Management or similar.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Python & JavaScript.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Ireland/EU and travel throughout the island of Ireland if required; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Ireland/EU, Northern Ireland/UK you must upload a copy of it with your application. Failure to provide a relevant Visa/Work permit could result in your application not being considered.

  • Has led a system integration project.
  • Experience in using process improvement techniques.
