Job Description

ALS Identify is seeking a Product Development Engineer to support the design and development of a new automated manufacturing product solution. This role will focus on translating product requirements into engineered solutions, supporting prototype development, testing and preparation for manufacture.

The Product Development Engineer will be involved in mechanical design, system layout and integration of automated elements, working closely with internal engineering staff and academic partners. The role will support the development of in-house product development capability and reduce reliance on external suppliers for future product innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of a new automated product solution from concept through to prototype and production-ready design
  • Produce CAD models, layouts and design documentation to support product development
  • Assist with prototype build, testing and evaluation, identifying design improvements through iteration
  • Support integration of mechanical and automated elements within the system
  • Contribute to design-for-manufacture and assembly considerations
  • Work with academic and technical partners to support knowledge transfer and capability building

This role suits an engineer with an interest in product development, automation and applied engineering within a manufacturing-focused environment.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with North West Regional College as part of the InterTradeIreland Innovation Boost Programme.

Interviews will be held approximately week commencing: 30/03/2026

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree (Level 7 NFQ) in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 1-year hands-on use of CAD or equivalent in project environments
  • Minimum 1 year working knowledge of mechanical and pneumatic principles (materials, tolerances, actuators, etc.)
  • Minimum 1 year experience contributing to improvements in existing machinery or production equipment (modifications, upgrades, or performance optimisation activities)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Ireland/EU, and travel throughout the island of Ireland if required; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Ireland/EU you must upload a copy of it with your application. Failure to provide a relevant Visa/Work permit could result in your application not being considered

Desirable Criteria

  • Proven experience in designing automation equipment (including conveyors, pneumatic systems, or mechanical machinery)
  • Familiarity with production or commissioning environments, including exposure to factory acceptance testing, site installation, or handover processes.
  • Experience supporting technical documentation or customer-facing materials, such as manuals, work instructions, or training support.
  • Exposure to digital prototyping or evaluation tools, such as rapid prototyping, simulation, or basic performance testing methods, used to support design decisions.
