Job Summary

UMAC Systems Ltd is a systems integrator and machine builder offering services to regulated industries globally. The UMAC Team offers a wealth of experience in automation control and data acquisition, cyber security, mechanical design, and machine building. UMAC has facilities in Kells, Co. Meath and Limerick City. This role will fall under UMAC Precision, a division dedicated to serving the Medical Device Industry with Automation and Machine building services. We currently have sales in the EU, USA, Mexico and Costa Rica.

Job Description

The successful candidate will lead the development of a new market leading surface coating system. You will lead and manage specific best practice engineering-related activities in line with the Machine Building Directive and Medical Device Company practices.

You will be an important part of a multi-disciplinary team designing, prototyping and manufacturing a new coating application process for the medical device sector. Responsibilities include:

Project Management

  • Define project requirements: material, labour and overhead resources (budget planning) and complete a User Requirement Document based on market data.
  • Ensure adherence to the documentation process for project management.
  • Ensure agreed timelines are met through effective management of resources and technical documentation.

Training

  • Train and complete surface characterisation testing and set-up specific Test Procedures as well as carry out Bench tests and feedback results to design stage.

Communication

  • Communicate project requirements to relevant departments (e.g. Design, Controls, Assembly) and manage market communication on project related subject matter.
  • Working with clients and suppliers to ensure that their expectations are met.
  • Lead the design function working closely with the UMAC and Ulster University teams.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Ulster University (UU) – NIBEC & CDHT, as part of the InterTradeIreland Innovation Boost Programme and will also have the opportunity to avail of a Post Graduate Diploma with Queen’s University Belfast as part of the employment offering.

The role will be based at UMAC offices in Kells Co Meath, with considerable project time spent in Belfast at NIBEC.

Essential Criteria

  • BEng in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related subject.
  • Must be legally entitled to work and travel in Ireland/EU; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Ireland you must upload a copy of it with your application.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in process development and experience in developing medical device coating applications.
  • Regulatory experience and strong analytical, numerical and IT skills.
  • Previous experience on a medical device-related project.
  • Evidence of ability to work closely with industry partners.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage projects, and drive results.
  • Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel as required by the post.
