Job Summary

MFC Foods trading as Dessert First is an artisan bakery in the city of Waterford that manufactures a range of delicious, high-quality sweet and savoury bakery products for sale in local retail and national food service outlets. Production runs 6 days a week and products are made using premium ingredients to create a high-quality range of products using only clean label, natural ingredients for retail and food service throughout Ireland.

Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Bakery Technologist with a passion for bakery products to play a pivotal role within a progressive company.

The role will involve:

  • Leading the development of formal NPD processes and procedures within the company.
  • Working closely with a wider team in researching, developing, and launching new product ranges within retail and growing the food service side of the business.
  • Liaising closely with key customers (actual and potential) to ensure their needs are met and commercial opportunities are grasped.
  • Continually reviewing the company’s progress in the area of NPD to ensure continued impact on revenue growth.


The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with Southern Regional College (SRC) and will also have the opportunity to avail of a Post Graduate Diploma with Queen’s University Belfast as part of the employment offering.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum of Hons 2.2 Degree in any discipline may be acceptable if candidate has a high level of relevant previous experience.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred, with a basic knowledge of HACCP
  • If necessary, you must have a valid work permit/visa in place allowing you to work legally in Rep of Ireland

Desirable Criteria

  • Practical experience of working in the area of bakery/patisseries/snack products environment.
  • A keen interest in desserts/ pastries products and understanding of emerging trends.
  • Previous experience working as pastry chef in a facility that produces pastries and/or snack products.
