Job Summary

Design ID are a forward-thinking Consulting Civil & Structural Engineering Firm. Established in 2011, the firm now has over 60 employees across the UK and Ireland.

As well as a strong portfolio of award-winning projects in the built environment the firm has a dedicated Innovation team since 2021 who are pushing boundaries in the AEC / Built Environment.

Incorporating digital advancements and emerging technology to push the construction industry forward and to use technology to address social issues such as Climate Emergency are key motivators for our Innovation Team.

Job Description

This is a key, new role within the company. The successful applicant will be responsible for digitally transforming the design and other processes of the business. A primary focus of this role will be the use of innovative digital technologies that will improve efficiency and increase value and quality of deliverables for our clients.

The project manager will lead the development of new data-driven integrated engineering capabilities.

This development will be generally founded on:

  • Data principles
  • Intelligent digital (AI-led) competencies
  • Product development, digital transformation techniques
  • Digital delivery / product launch techniques
  • Communication with end users, stakeholders and developers
  • Subsequent design outputs where typically 3D digital models provide the platform.

Some of the duties involved include:

  • Implementation of data, data science, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) software & tools.
  • Creation of automated workflows.
  • Trialling, developing, testing and problem-solving information and data exchange across multiple platforms.
  • Creation of and launch of automated data exchange founded on data, ML /AI automated platform prototypes based on real-world construction industry situations/processes.

The successful graduate will lead this project, in a supportive partnership with University of Limerick and will also have the opportunity to avail of a Post Graduate Diploma with Queen’s University Belfast as part of the employment offering.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 2:1 Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • Some knowledge in data structures, algorithms etc. (Database / SQL Experience preferred) and AI / AI prompt engineering.
  • Ability to work with datasets, perform data pre-processing and apply data visualisation techniques.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Northern Ireland; if you do require a visa/work permit allowing you to work in Northern Ireland you must upload a copy of it with your application.

Desirable Criteria


  • Programming and scripting and or visual scripting skills, preferably in languages such as Python, Grasshopper, Dynamo, ArcGIS.
  • Proficiency with large datasets and data analysis, statistical modelling, and visualization techniques. Appreciation / experience with machine learning, optimization and computational design methods.


  • Some knowledge of Civil and Structural Engineering principles, codes, and practices. Familiarity with AEC industry carbon / climate emergency standards such as SCORS rating.
  • Some knowledge of engineering software tools such as finite element analysis (FEA) software, CAD and BIM software.


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.
